Summer breads and Friday's GF Pizza Pop-up!
Summary: We will be transitioning soon to lots of summer breads full of herbs and vegetables….but not quite yet. Stop by our flatbread pizza pop-up this Friday May 19th at Sideways Brewery in Etowah from 4:00pm to 7:30pm; GF local cider and our famous sourdough GF/vegan cookies on offer! Details at the end of the newsletter.
Summer is almost here in the mountains of Western North Carolina; we have more warm days than cool ones and the rains have sprung green upon green in all the trees, shrubs and ground cover. It’s time for being outside as much as possible, weather at the Wednesday RAD Farmer’s Market is fantastic, and everyone is out and either hiking or traveling somewhere—stop by soon and say hi! Pickup orders are open of course.
This time of year farms are growing almost exclusively produce of the leafy variety—think chards, mustards and kales—as well as the spring super-celebrity: strawberries. Of course, all the farms and garden centers are offering rows of seedlings for home garden enthusiasts; it’s an investment in summer and the dream of abundance.
Tourists and their fascination with hikes and beer (not necessarily in that order) haven’t arrived yet and so Asheville seems both lush verdant and a bit quiet.
Like the tourists, we haven’t yet shifted into full summer gear with our breads either. While we now have thick amazing Rosemary & Sea Salt focaccia at market every week, we won’t start decorating these focaccias with the best summer produce. Tomatoes, peppers, basil and the like are still to arrive. This year we plan to work in the flavors of summer into small breads as well—perfect for picnics, snacks and your favorite charcuterie board. We’ll let you know all about it when it’s time!
Meanwhile, tomorrow (Friday 19th) we are firing up the Ooni pizza oven and flaming up our Sicilian flatbread pizza crusts to the max, with fresh local shiitakes, cheeses, Kalamata olives, organic pepperoni and our famous tomato-lemon-shallot sauce to help see late Spring in with style. Vegan cheese available.
To add further fun to the pop-up, we’ll have our classic sourdough chocolate chip cookies available! (GF/Vegan)
