“Every mile is two in the winter.” —George Herbert
Ciao GF baked goods fan and Happy New Year!
I was getting ready to set up the website for orders for the coming week and I looked at the Asheville weather forecast…
Wow! It will be sunny, yes, but those kind of temperatures for a breezy outdoor market with vendors standing in the cold for 3 hours are extreme, and on the edge of being too cold for safety. I’m afraid those temperatures would freeze my toes and numb out my general ability to think coherently and sell bread to you. It is a ways until Wednesday and the forecast might change but as middle-aged person certain insane things just don’t seem worth risking like they used to, ha. So we will not be at market on Wednesday. BUT…
We have a backup plan!
In last week’s email poll 70% of you said you’d be interested in at least occasional pickups at the Gemelli Restaurant (in Westgate Plaza next to Earthfare).
So that is what we will do next week, Saturday the 11th to be precise. And never fear, we will continue to be at the Wednesday RAD market when daytime market temperatures are above freezing— which is most of the year.
The Details for next Saturday January 11th
At Gemelli in Asheville: Pickup indoors on Saturday, January 11th from 10:00am to 11:30am.
There will be no walk up purchases; everything will be pre-order only.
Come inside to our table next to the door.
Front Porch in Horseshoe: Pickup will also be Saturday, January 11th from 9:30am onwards.
Also for Gemelli: Feel free to check out Gemelli’s Gluten Free/Sensitive offerings! They have some amazing GF dishes including GF pastas of all types and GF Arancini (rice croquettes - Flavio’s personal favorite.)
A couple more savory things we heard from the poll:
We will continue to offer our Round Tuscan-style Focaccias (frozen) and we may even switch up the toppings from time to time.
We will be offering the Round Tuscan Pizza crusts (frozen) as well. They are not as thick as the focaccia but a lot thicker than the rectangular Roman pizza crusts. If baked up hot on a pan with olive oil and lots of toppings, the crust is both crunchy and creamy and is Urban Peasant co-owner Beth’s absolute favorite.
Italian Sandwich Bread will be available soon; stay tuned.

We hope 2025 is a year of rebuilding and restoration for each of you. Thank you for giving us the privilege of baking for you through the challenges of 2024!
